Credentials
Credentials give NetEdgeIQ permission to interact with your network devices. Without credentials, the system can only observe what devices exist — with them, it can authenticate, collect detailed data, and execute governed changes.
Credential types
| Type | Used for | What it provides |
|---|---|---|
| SNMP v2c | Network devices (switches, routers, APs, UPS) | Community string for read (and optionally write) access |
| SNMP v3 | Network devices requiring secure SNMP | Username, authentication protocol/key, privacy protocol/key |
| SSH | Linux/Unix servers, network devices with SSH management | Username and password, or username and private key |
How credentials are used
Credentials are stored centrally and then assigned to specific asset capabilities. When you assign an SNMP credential to an asset's SNMP capability, the edge agent uses it the next time it probes or collects data from that device. When you assign an SSH credential, the agent uses it for enrichment and other SSH-based jobs.
